Tulum Mayan Ruins and Cenote Swim Excursion

Overview

This excursion takes you to discover the remains of the Mayan civilisation and the natural landscapes of the peninsula, with transport in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel or a meeting point. The programme includes priority access to the Tulum archaeological site. Accompanied by a professional guide, you will visit the temples, including the astronomical observatory, while discovering the history of this ancient Mayan port. The day continues with a visit to a picturesque cenote, a sacred and traditional site for the Mayan culture, where you can swim in a preserved natural setting. Three options are available depending on your departure point and preferences: a short visit from Tulum (4 hours), a full circuit from Cancún with a stop in Playa del Carmen (13 hours), or an option from the Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen (6 hours).

1. Tulum Archaeological Site

   Tulum was a port city crucially important to the Mayan culture and its economy in the region. With a professional tour guide, you’ll learn more about what made this city a powerhouse in its time. With temples scattered throughout the city and many other cultural epicenters within reach, this visit will prove to be not only educational but an interesting experience to learn about the Mayan culture, their advanced knowledge and the heritage of the region.

2. Cenote Nohoch

   Take a refreshing swim in the waters of a beautiful cenote, you’ll be able to learn more about the amazing underground networks of water bodies in the region. Enjoy the scenery and even enjoy the depths with your snorkel gear, should you choose to do so.

How to use your ticket

You must contact Cancun Experience at least 24 hours before your product date to arrange transportation, if you book within 24 hours please contact immediately. Use the contact details on your confirmation/voucher. Upon pickup or arrival at the meeting point, please present your confirmation/voucher and photo ID in exchange for your product. If you do not require hotel pickup or selected the meeting point option, meet the tour at any of the designated meeting points. Please look out for the staff holding the orange Cancun Experience logo.

What to know before you go

• Infants must sit on an adult's lap.
• Not recommended for travellers with cardiovascular problems.
• Assistance animals are welcome.
• Suitable for all fitness levels.
• Free for children aged 2 and under accompanied by a paying adult.
• You must be able to walk approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) at a leisurely pace and be able to climb up and down stairs.
• A mandatory supplement of 750 MXN per person (government tax, Tulum fees, and nature reserve) is payable in cash on the day of the activity.
• Please be ready in your hotel lobby or at the meeting point 15 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
• Round-trip transport is available from most hotels in central Cancún, Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen.
• If your hotel is not covered, a nearby meeting point will be arranged.
• Pick-up is not available from hotels in Tulum; passengers must meet the tour at the designated point.
• Please bring a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and cash for personal expenses.
• An additional mandatory government tax has been imposed for all visitors to the Tulum archaeological site since 2 January 2025.
• The activity can accommodate up to 99 travellers.
