Carrara Marble Tour by van from Lucca or Pisa

Overview

Set off on an excursion to the Carrara mountains departing from Lucca or Pisa. This tour allows you to enter a genuine extraction cave, a distinctive feature of this visit. The journey is made in an air-conditioned van with a driver-guide. Upon arrival at the site, you will switch to a 4x4 Jeep to enter the cave. A professional guide will explain the history of the site, marble extraction techniques, the production of a local wine, and how to identify authentic Carrara marble. The final stop is in the village of Colonnata, famous for its gastronomic speciality, lardo di Colonnata. You will have the opportunity to visit a local deli to make purchases or, upon request, book a table in a traditional restaurant for a tasting of local cuisine (lunch not included).

Itinerary

1. Marble Caves of Carrara

   You will have the unique possibility to visit a real Carrara Marble Cave. This is the only tour that will give you the opportunity to get inside a cave where, still now, they are extracting pure marble.

2. Colonnata

   We will visit the little village of Colonnata: the place where the "lardo" (a very tasty kind of salami) is made. The panoramic terrace will make you enjoy an amazing view of the caves of Carrara Marble. Also the remaining 1hr is for travel time 30 minutes driving outbound and 30 minutes driving on the return
