Night Walk in La Fortuna at Arenal Volcano: Rainforest Flora and Fauna

Overview

Embark on a night hike in La Fortuna, near the Arenal Volcano, to observe the wildlife that awakens at dusk. Accompanied by a professional naturalist guide, you will explore the trails of Mirador El Silencio to discover Costa Rica's nocturnal biodiversity. The route is dedicated to spotting various species: red-eyed tree frogs, poison dart frogs, snakes, lizards, spiders, insects, and resting birds. Depending on the night's sightings, sloths or other mammals may also be seen. As animals roam free, encounters vary every evening. The activity is offered in two options: a regular small group tour (up to 15 people) or a private tour. Round-trip transport from certain hotels in La Fortuna, portable lighting equipment, and trail entrance fees are included in both options.

Itinerary

1. Mirador El Silencio

   Get into one of Costa Rica’s most iconic forests with our La Fortuna Night Tour, an experience that begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and invites you to discover the magic of the rainforest at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. During this guided walk you will learn about the geological history that shaped our country, the influence of volcanoes on the local ecosystem and the particularities of the climate of the area. As night falls, the jungle awakens and you can observe the incredible flora and nocturnal fauna of La Fortuna. Among the animals we usually find fascinating amphibians and reptiles such as crystal frogs, tree frogs, rain frogs, wet forest toads and the great cane toad; in addition to snakes such as coral, muzzle, stone hand and the well-known velvet. It is also possible to observe mammals such as coati, armadillos, possums, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and spider monkeys.

Pickup

Pickup or meet at the departure point.

Transport included applies only to hotels in Fortuna center and hotels on the route to Mirador El Silencio. The pickup time varies between 30 and 45 minutes before the start time of the activity. If the client did not read the instructions with the pickup time and is not ready, there is no refund.
