Overview

We begin the day with a relaxing drive to Tampere. There, you'll visit the world’s only Moomin Museum, followed by a short stop at one or two local landmarks, like the Cathedral or city viewpoint — depending on your interest. After that, we drive back to Helsinki for a walking tour through real places from Tove Jansson’s life — including her childhood park, her art studio, and statues made by her father. The day ends at the Moomin Shop in Helsinki, where you can find books, gifts, and souvenirs.

Itinerary

1. Helsinki

   Our private tour begins in Helsinki, where your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel around 9:00. After a 2-hour drive through southern Finland, we arrive in Tampere, home to the world’s only official Moomin Museum.

2. Tampere

   Visit the world’s only official Moomin Museum in Tampere. Explore original drawings by Tove Jansson, detailed dioramas, and a towering 5-storey model of the Moominhouse. Your guide will walk you through the exhibition and share behind-the-scenes stories of Tove's creative world. Optional: Sketching corner, museum shop, or a short break at the in-house café. Depending on your preferences and timing, we can make brief visits to Tampere's top sights: Tampere Cathedral with its unique frescoes, Finlayson old industrial area for a glimpse into Finnish history, or Pyynikki Observation Tower (with donut café!) for scenic city views.

3. Helsinki

   After we return from the Moomin Museum in Tampere, we go for a relaxed walking tour in Helsinki to see special places connected to Tove Jansson’s life. These are not typical tourist spots — they are real places where she lived, studied, played as a child, worked as an artist, and walked by the sea. We will see her childhood home, her art studio, statues made by her father (with Tove as the model), her school, the harbor where she used to skate, and the park named after her. Your guide will tell short stories at each place so you get to know who Tove was, not only as the creator of the Moomins, but as a real person. It’s like walking through her memories.
