This private half-day excursion takes you to explore the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) departing from Hue. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, you will discover the relics and museums related to the Vietnam War while passing through rural landscapes and traditional villages. The itinerary includes several significant historical sites, notably Route 1, known as the 'Horror Highway' due to the events of 1 May 1972, as well as Long Hung Church, one of the few buildings to survive the 1972 offensives in Quang Tri town. You will also visit the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, a witness to the fierce battles of 1972, before concluding with the Vinh Moc tunnel complex. This underground network served as a vital shelter for the residents of Vinh Linh district to protect themselves from intense bombing.

Itinerary

1. Quang Tri Citadel

   We pick you up at your hotel in Hue in the morning you can choose 8am (suggested) or 9am or 10am. Please tell us your departure time and pick up location (hotel) in the term: Special Requirements. Visiting places: - Highway of Horror: May 1, 1972 will never be forgotten by people in Quang Tri and Thua Thien provinces not because it is the International Labor Day, but because the horrible carnage on the Vietnam Highway 1 about ten kilometers south of Quang Tri City. Thousands of people were killed by artillery and infantry weapons in hours of shooting. - Long Hung Church: This church in Quang Tri, Vietnam fell victim to 8 continuous days of bombings by South Vietnamese and American troops during the Vietnam War. The church has remained untouched and basically remains as it was immediately after the bombings occurred.which was a battlefield in 1972 between North and South Vietnam for 81 days and nights. Quang Tri Ancient Citadel: is seen as an eye-witness of fierce battles during the anti-American resistance war in 1972. During the 81-day fighting, the citadel was almost destroyed by thousands of tons of bombs released by the US army. Nowadays, the citadel becomes a place to mark immortal victories of the Vietnamese army and people and to educate youths about the nation’s revolutionary tradition and its patriotism. - Doc Mieu Base: There's basically nothing left of this old American base save a rusting tank and a sign. Apparently this once formed the backbone of the "eagle eyes of america" electronic monitoring fence. - Ben Hai River – Hien Luong Bridge of DMZ: Vietnam's Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, is the area around the former border between North and South Vietnam.

2. Vinh Moc Tunnel

   - Vinh Moc Tunnels and Tunnels Museum: The tunnels were built in three levels (12, 15 and 23 meters deep) and took thirteen months to complete. Three hundred people lived intermittently in the tunnels during 1966 to 1971. Sixty-two families made the tunnels their home and amazingly seventeen babies were born here and spent the first years of their lives underground.
