Its construction dates back to 1586, it was not until 1726 that it was enabled as a “San Andrés” hospital and later this facility became part of the “Las Carmelitas” cloistered nun convent. Like other emblematic buildings in the city, the convent was declared a National Historic Monument on July 14, 1941.

  6. Monumento al Gral. Martín Miguel de Guemes

    At the end of Paseo Güemes and at the foot of San Bernardo Hill is the Monument to the gaucho Martín Miguel de Güemes, one of the undisputed heroes of Salta. It was inaugurated in 1931 and has the particularity of having been built with rocks extracted from San Bernardo Hill. Every June 17, the city honors the gaucho hero with parades where various forts participate. The celebration highlights the “Guard under the stars” on the eve of the 17th, where the gauchos gather at the foot of the monument in the traditional bonfires and guitars.
