Excursion to Cafayate and Quebrada de las Conchas from Salta

Overview

This full-day excursion takes you to the town of Cafayate, located in the Calchaquí Valley, 112 miles (180 km) from Salta. The journey follows one of the most renowned routes in northern Argentina, offering spectacular scenery. The route crosses the Quebrada de las Conchas, where erosion has sculpted remarkable natural formations. You will discover the Garganta del Diablo, a deep canyon, as well as the Amphitheatre, famous for its natural acoustics, along with El Sapo, El Monje, El Obelisco, and Los Castillos. The final stop is in Cafayate, the province's wine centre, characterised by its late 19th-century colonial and baroque architecture. The programme includes a visit to a winery with wine tasting, all conducted in an air-conditioned vehicle.

1. Valle de Lerma

   Visit to the wine center of the province, crossing La Quebrada de Las Conchas. Route: National Route 68 (Wine Route); Lerma Valley (Cerrillos, La Merced, El Carril, Coronel Moldes, La Viña (technical stop)

2. Quebrada del Rio de las Conchas

   Erosion in the region has formed a succession of natural wonders such as the Devil's Throat, a deep and closed canyon. The Amphitheater (with perfect natural acoustics). The Toad, The Friar, The Obelisk, The Castles. Gradually, the aridity of the landscape is replaced by large tracts of vineyards until you reach one of the most outstanding regions within the Calchaquíes Valleys: Cafayate, a village of single-storey houses between colonial and baroque of the late 19th century. Quebrada de las Conchas: More than 10 stops in multicolored formations caused by the erosion of wind and water such as The Devil's Throat, The Amphitheater, La Yesera, Las Ventanas, Los Castillos, etc.

3. Cafayate entre viñas

   In Cafayate you will have the opportunity to visit a winery and taste the best wines in the area. Although the region always refers to Torrontés, the place has a lot of hectares dedicated to red grapes such as Malbec, Tannat or Cabernet Sauvignon.

4. Cafayate

   Visit the city of Cafayate and a winery. We will have 2 free hours in the city to have lunch and explore. Village of single-storey houses between colonial and baroque architecture of the late 19th century. (Lunch and drinks are NOT included in the price)

   We returned to Salta along the Quebrada de las Conchas along Route 68, making the stops we missed on the outbound journey and touring this beautiful and unique landscape of Argentina.
