Piazza Salimbeni
This is the starting point of our tour. Piazza Salimbeni dates back to the 14th century, but its current form is the result of an extensive restoration. It is framed by three buildings: Palazzo Salimbeni, Palazzo Spannocchi and Palazzo Cantucci.
Palazzo Salimbeni
Also known as "Rocca Salimbeni", this 14th century palace features a Sienese Gothic style facade. Our guide will tell you about its long history and the many institutions that were housed here.
Le Logge del Papa
The Lodges of the Pope were gifted by Pope Pius II to his family in the 15th century. This elegant structure displays beautiful Renaissance arches and Corinthian capitals, and it is one of the testimonies to the power and influence of this figure in Siena.
Piazza del Campo
Piazza del Campo, one of the main landmarks of Siena, is the center of the old town. Our guide will provide insights and information about its most peculiar characteristics, such as the shell-like form of the pavement and the role of the square in the Palio.
Torre del Mangia
This 14th century tower took more than two decades to complete and is 102 meters high. The peculiar name refers to the figure of Giovanni di Balduccio, whose nickname was "il mangiaguadagni" ("the earnings-squanderer").
Piazza del Duomo is the true heart of the city. The name refers to the Cathedral overlooking it, but many other landmarks are present here, such as the Baptistry of St John, the Column of the She-Wolf and the Piccolomini Palace.
Duomo di Siena
The Duomo of Siena was consecrated in 1179, but it construction only ended in the 14th century. The iconic black and white color theme is the background to many works of art including sculptures attributed to Donatello and Michelangelo, among others.
Libreria Piccolomini
This monumental library was built in the late 15th century at the behest of Cardinal Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini to commemorate his uncle, Pope Pius II, and preserve his books and manuscripts. This extraordinary place features stunning frescoes by Pinturicchio, each celebrating a different episode in the life of the pope.
