Siena Family Tour

Overview

Two magic hours to discover the city with Your children! Children and adults will learn the city's history having fun and being enriched by anecdotes and legends from the Middle Ages! Magic is hiding in plain sight.... Stroll around the streets of Siena to discover the mysteries, reach the ancient castle and discover the symbol of Siena, the she-wolf, which from the top of its columns protects us. Learn about the 17 districts that we call Contrade and find the animals that represent them. The Contrade participate to the horse race twice a year, an incredible event! Have fun to watch the videos, find the stables where the horses sleep for four days and the little fountains hidden through the streets where the Sienese are baptized.

Itinerary

1. Basilica Cateriniana Di S. Domenico

   Start the tour from this beautiful church, from where we can admire the most incredible view of the city.

2. Fontebranda

   In the Goose district there is the important fountain, where the kids can play with a famous Sienese game.

3. Palazzo Tolomei

   Head on towards Tolomei Square, which in the past was the most important square with the gothic palace owned by the noble family Tolomei.

4. Piazza del Campo

   Piazza del Campo hosts twice a year the famous horse race, called Palio. Children willl love to see videos and discover every secret of this medieval tradtion.

5. Complesso Museale Santa Maria della Scala

   Enjoy the magic square of the Cathedral embedded inside the ancient walls, and then see the S.Mary of the Staircase, which today is a museum, but not very long ago it was an important hospital.

   Admire this colorful and fully decorated facade and discover how the Sienese wanted to biuld the largest Church in the world.
