Overview

This walking tour allows you to understand the major aspects of life under the communist regime in Romania between 1948 and 1989. Accompanied by a guide, you will explore the influence of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu on the country and the lasting transformation of the city's architecture. The itinerary covers significant sites such as the former secret police premises, where interrogations and torture took place, as well as sites related to nationalisation and urban demolitions. The tour concludes at Revolution Square, the site of Nicolae Ceausescu's final speech on 21 December 1989. Two options are available: a regular 3-hour tour including a typical snack from the communist era, and a shorter 2-hour version. The latter, which does not include a snack, focuses on specific stops such as the University, the metro, and the Romanian Tian An Men square.
