The group tour is designed for you to live Tikal, not just to visit it. From the moment we started the tour, we combined the greatness of the ancient Mayan civilization with the incredible nature of the jungle. You will walk along ancient roads, discover impressive temples and squares, and have the opportunity to observe monkeys, birds, and other animals in their natural habitat. With approximately four hours to explore the park, you will have time to see its most important places, take photographs, rest, and enjoy every moment without feeling like you are in a race. All accompanied by a certified guide who will help you understand the history and secrets of this extraordinary city. The goal is to offer you a well-organized group tour, with a manageable group and a complete experience where history, adventure, and nature come together to create a truly unforgettable day.
Choose your option when you book.
The tour begins with a comfortable and accessible meeting point on the charming Isla de Flores at 7:30 a.m. On the I LOVE PETEN sign from where we will leave for the jungle to start this incredible adventure. Discover the majesty of Tikal National Park, one of the most impressive Mayan cities in the world, where history and nature come together in an unforgettable experience. Along the way, you will explore temples, squares and ancient structures surrounded by wildlife, while discovering the secrets of Mayan civilization. Listen to the sounds of the jungle, watch howler monkeys and enjoy unique views from the top of the temples. More than a tour, it’s an experience that connects you to the history, nature and magic of Tikal.
When you arrive at the Visitor Center, you will have your first approach to the grandeur of this ancient Mayan city. Here you will find an impressive Tikal scale model, ideal for understanding the magnitude and distribution of its temples, squares and structures before entering the jungle. You will also have access to amenities such as restrooms, restaurant, cafeteria and local craft shops. Then, we will cross the entrance control and begin the real experience: an immersive hike through jungle trails, surrounded by natural sounds and wildlife. Along the way, our local guide will not only take you from one point to another... he will connect you to the surroundings, dynamically explaining the flora, fauna and archaeological secrets that made Tikal one of the most powerful civilizations in the Mayan world. Every step will bring you closer to an unforgettable moment... until, suddenly, the jungle opens and reveals before your eyes the majestic Central Square, the heart of Tikal.
This stunning open space is surrounded by some of Tikal's most iconic structures: The imposing Temple of the Great Jaguar (Temple I), built as a tomb of the ruler Jasaw Chan K'awiil I, one of the most important figures in the history of the city. Just opposite, Temple II (Temple of Masks), from where you get one of the best panoramic views of the entire square. And the Mayan Ball Game, where rituals that went beyond sport were performed, linked to the worldview and the balance between the earthly and spiritual worlds. Here, every structure tells a story... from sacred rituals to the political power that dominated much of the Mayan world. This is undoubtedly one of the most striking moments of the tour, where the greatness of Tikal is revealed in all its glory, surrounded by the jungle and wrapped in an atmosphere that connects past and present.
Temple III, also known as the Grand Priest Temple, is one of the tallest structures in Tikal National Park, reaching approximately 55 meters high. Built around 810 AD, this temple stands out for its impressive crest (structure at the top), which still retains carved details depicting high-ranking figures, possibly an important ruler or priest. Although not always accessible for climbing, its majesty can be appreciated from different points of the site, being a clear example of the power and architectural sophistication of Mayan civilization in its last years of splendor.
At approximately 70 meters high, it is the highest pyramid on the site and one of the highest in the entire Mayan civilization. View over the jungle Climbing to its top is a unique experience: from above you can see the rainforest tops and standing out among them other Mayan temples. It is famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Connection with astronomy It is aligned in such a way that other important temples can be observed from its top, suggesting ceremonial and astronomical use. It was the scene of Star Wars Scenes from the rebel base on Yavin’s moon were filmed here in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, making it even more iconic worldwide. Dedicated to a powerful ruler It was built around 741 AD by the Mayan ruler Yik'in Chan K'awiil, one of the most important in the city.
It is the oldest ceremonial square in Tikal, built around 400 BC, long before the great temples that everyone knows were erected. Design and structure: The square is very wide and rectangular, with several platforms and stairs that served for public rituals and religious ceremonies. Its construction reflects the Mayan mastery of architecture and urban planning. Social and ceremonial function: It was used as a gathering place for the community, as well as a place for astronomical observations, as the structures around it are aligned with important solar events, such as solstices and equinoxes. Visitor experience: Walking through the square allows you to imagine the life of the ancient Mayans, their rituals and celebrations, making it feel like you are treading on a real lost world, almost intact after more than two thousand years of history.
Delicious lunch: After exploring the Lost World Square and soaking in history, the tour heads to a local restaurant near Tikal or on the way to Flores. It’s a time to relax, share impressions of the tour and recharge before proceeding. Journey to Flores : After lunch, continue to Flores or Mundo Maya Airport.
