Madeira 4x4 Jeep Safari: Porto Moniz, Lava Pools & Fanal Forest

Overview

Set off on an exploration of Madeira in a 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by a driver-guide. This circuit crosses diverse landscapes, from coastal cliffs to mountain plateaus, to discover the island's most iconic sites. The itinerary begins at Cabo Girão and its Skywalk, one of Europe's highest cliffs. The journey continues through Ribeira Brava and its 16th-century São Bento church, then to Ponta do Sol, known as the sunniest area of the island. The trip then ascends to the Paul da Serra plateau before descending towards Porto Moniz and its natural lava pools. The tour also includes a visit to the basalt columns of Ribeira da Janela, the black sand beach of Seixal, and the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. The day concludes with a tasting of Madeira wine at the Henriques & Henriques cellar. Pick-up service is included and the group is limited to 12 participants.

Itinerary

1. Camara De Lobos

   After Pick up we will have the first stop at Miradouro do Pico da Torre where you can enjoy the wonderful bay of Câmara de lobos, followed by an off road.

2. Cabo Girao

   At 580 meters high, Cabo Girão is the highest promontory in Europe, but that's not the only reason it has become increasingly famous all over the world. Its viewpoint, with the famous suspended glass platform — called skywalk — is currently one of the most visited (and certainly most photographed) tourist attractions in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos and the Madeira archipelago.

3. Ribeira Brava

   Ribeira Brava is known for its extensive valley, discovered in the 15th century, with excellent weather for bananas and sugar cane.

4. After leaving Ribeira Brava, we will pass through Ponta de Sol to admire the village that was an important landmark for exports at the end of the 19th century. After that, we will stop for coffee, toilet and anything else that customers may need.

5. With a unique natural landscape, the Paul da Serra is a point of interest for unique contours on the island of Madeira. It is the largest mountainous plateau of the entire archipelago. It is therefore one of the most relevant (and indispensable) points of interest in the municipality of Ponta do Sol. With an average elevation of 1500 meters, the Paul da Serra allows access to stunning views over the mountainous peaks and deep valleys that mark the surrounding area. On days of good visibility, it is possible to see the coastline of the south coast and the north coast. The landscape is, however, dominated by the green tones of Nature.

6. Posto Florestal Fanal

   Situated between the Seixal and Ribeira da Janela mountains, the Fanal is a vast forest area that invites you to enjoy what nature has to offer. This idyllic space is one of the most iconic places in the municipality of Porto Moniz, hosting a landscape heritage of great beauty.

7. Praia Da Ribeira Da Janela

   We will have a wonderful stop in Ribeira da Janela with a path towards a small cave where you will have a splendid panoramic view of the blue Atlantic.

8. Porto Moniz

   We have a stop at Porto Moniz for lunch, where you can walk and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on our island. (HORAS IN THIS LOCAL CAN VARIATE)

10. Henriques & Henriques

    At the end of the day, we return to the Chamber of Lobos to the Madeira wine factory, where we will have a taste of the delicious Madeira wines. (ONLY MONDAY TO FRIDAY)
