Snagov Monastery
We begin the tour with a stop at Snagov Monastery, the place believed to hold the tomb of Vlad the Impaler, the Wallachian ruler who inspired the famous Dracula character created by Bram Stoker. Originally built in the 14th century and later restored by Vlad the Impaler himself, the monastery is one of the oldest and most important monastic sites in southern Romania. Located on a peaceful island in the middle of Snagov Lake, the church preserves original frescoes, medieval architectural elements, and a unique atmosphere surrounded by legends and stories about the Wallachian ruler.
Unirea Salt Mine
Discover the spectacular Unirea Salt Mine in Slănic Prahova, one of the largest salt mines in Europe and one of Romania’s most impressive underground attractions. Descend 208 meters below ground and explore a fascinating world carved entirely in salt, featuring enormous galleries, towering salt walls, and breathtaking underground landscapes formed over millions of years. Inside the mine, visitors can walk through vast chambers reaching up to 54 meters in height, admire impressive salt sculptures, explore recreational areas, and learn about the region’s mining history in the underground museum. The unique microclimate and dramatic lighting reflecting on the crystalline salt surfaces create an unforgettable atmosphere and excellent photo opportunities. This remarkable underground experience is perfect for travelers interested in nature, geology, history, and unique places to visit in Romania.
Vulcanii Noroiosi (Muddy Volcanoes)
Discover the spectacular Mud Volcanoes, one of Romania’s most unique natural attractions and one of the country’s most fascinating geological wonders. In this extraordinary landscape, natural gases rising from deep underground continuously push mud to the surface, creating bubbling craters, active mud cones, and a surreal terrain often compared to the surface of the Moon. Surrounded by cracked earth, grey hills, and constantly changing formations, the Mud Volcanoes create an otherworldly atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Europe. Visitors can walk across this remarkable landscape, observe the bubbling mud formations up close, and capture unforgettable photos of one of Romania’s most photogenic natural sites. This unique experience is perfect for nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and travelers looking to discover unusual places and hidden gems in Romania.
Magura
Between the two main attractions, guests will enjoy a relaxing lunch break in a beautiful scenic location surrounded by the stunning landscapes of rural Romania. This stop offers the perfect opportunity to unwind, admire breathtaking countryside views, and experience the authentic charm, traditional atmosphere, and natural beauty of the Romanian countryside.
