University's Square
Meet your tour guide and the rest of the group at the Statue of Mihai Viteazul in University Square—a central, easily accessible landmark marked by a large bronze equestrian monument. Once the group is assembled, board the minivan or minibus and begin your scenic drive of just under two hours to Dealu Mare, Romania’s premier wine region and a true escape for wine lovers. Much like Bordeaux or Tuscany, Dealu Mare lies along the 45th parallel, boasting an ideal climate for producing rich, velvety wines, particularly reds. During this shared wine-tasting journey, you’ll visit two boutique wineries, tour their facilities, and sample 12 exquisite wines—including indigenous varieties such as Fetească Neagră—paired with local cheese and charcuterie. As you travel between estates along the historic Old Wine Road, admire restored manors and rolling vineyard-covered hills.
LacertA Winery
Your Dealu Mare wine experience begins at Lacerta Winery, an award-winning boutique estate celebrated for its elegant modern architecture, state-of-the-art facilities, and exceptional wines. Join the winery guide for an insightful tour of the vineyards and cellars, where you’ll learn about Lacerta’s winemaking philosophy—from grape selection to the final bottle. Despite its contemporary design, Lacerta remains deeply rooted in tradition, using gravitational winemaking techniques that minimize pumping and help preserve the purity and character of each wine. After the tour, enjoy a tasting of six premium wines—including Romania’s flagship Fetească Neagră—paired with a curated selection of artisanal cheeses and charcuterie. Take in the panoramic views of vine-covered hills surrounding the estate as you savor the rich flavors that define Dealu Mare.
Your second stop is 1000 Chipuri Winery, a family-owned boutique estate known for its handcrafted wines and warm, authentic atmosphere. Follow the winery guide through the cellars to learn how traditional methods and modern techniques come together in their small-batch production. Before the tasting, you may choose to enjoy a traditional Romanian lunch (à la carte, paid on the spot). Your guided tasting includes five carefully selected wines, paired with cheese, cured meats, and dried fruits. You’ll also sample one or two wines straight from stainless steel tanks—a rare opportunity to experience the aging process firsthand. Expect highlights such as Fetească Neagră, Romania’s flagship red, along with Cabernet Franc and the aromatic Tămâioasă Românească. After a memorable day of wine tasting and local culture, relax on the drive back to Bucharest with the group. In vino veritas!
The meeting point is in University’s Square, right next to the Statue of Mihai Viteazul—a large bronze equestrian statue. The ‘Universitate’ Metro station is just a minute away, and there’s a Starbucks a few steps from the statue as an additional landmark.
The return is at the same place.
