Itinerary

  1. Snagov Monastery

The so-called “Dracula’s grave” in Snagov Monastery refers to the alleged burial site of Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler) — the historical figure who inspired the Dracula legend. What is Snagov Monastery? • Located on a small island in Snagov Lake, about 40 km north of Bucharest. • Built in the late 14th century and reconstructed over the centuries. • Accessed by a footbridge or boat, it’s a serene and historically rich place. ⚰️ Why is it called “Dracula’s Grave”? • Vlad Țepeș ruled Wallachia in the 15th century and was known for his brutal methods of punishing enemies, most infamously by impalement. • Historical accounts suggest he may have been buried at Snagov Monastery after being killed in battle around 1476. • A tombstone was discovered in front of the altar, which many believe marks his grave.
