Church Beck is a 100% wet ghyll - and that is exactly the point. Big jumps, natural rock slides, deep plunge pools and waterfalls you climb rather than admire from a path. Every jump and slide is optional, with an easy route past anything you would rather watch. What sets us apart: you are guided by a fully qualified, locally based instructor from a small independent Lake District company - not a seasonal hire. We keep groups small so you get real attention, and we have earned a 5-star rating from over 500 reviews doing exactly this. All technical kit is included: wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid, harness and boots. We also send you photographs of your adventure afterwards, free. And if it rains? Even better. The beck comes alive in the wet. You are in a wetsuit either way - this is one Lake District day out that improves in bad weather.
Choose your option when you book.
Meet your guide at Coniston, get kitted out in a wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid, and take a full safety briefing before heading into Church Beck - one of the finest ghylls in England, sitting right below the Old Man of Coniston. From there you work your way up and through the gorge. You will climb waterfalls, wade and swim through deep pools, scramble over boulders and slide natural rock chutes worn smooth by the water. Where the canyon drops away, you abseil. Your guide reads the group and picks the line to suit you - every jump, slide and obstacle is entirely optional, and there is always an easier way round. This is a genuinely wet adventure and that is the whole point. Expect to be in the water, expect to laugh a lot, and expect to come out feeling like you have done something real. Afterwards, head back to base to change and warm up. We will send you photographs of your session afterwards, free of charge. Suitable for anyone reasonably fit and comfortable in water, aged 10 and over. Families, friends, couples and groups all welcome.
The Meeting Location is at the Old Furness road car park right opposite the small industrial estate. There are some free parking spots however its always worth having some change just in case these are taken.
The return is at the same place.
