1. Odigitria Gonia Monastery

   The monastery, known as Lady of the Angels Monastery of Gonia, earns its name from its strategic position at the western corner of Chania Bay. Established in the 17th century, the monastery quickly became a hub of religious activity, fostering a rich monastic tradition. Throughout history, Gonia Monastery played a pivotal role, serving as a sanctuary for Cretan rebels and enduring repeated destruction by various conquerors. Enclosed within imposing walls reminiscent of a Venetian fortress, the complex centers around the temple dedicated to the Virgin Hodhegetria, celebrated on August 15th.
